A Very Merry UnBirthday!! Pt. 1

Hey y'all!!

I have decided that it's stupid to think I will be able to post an update on whatever anniversary I am currently at; I need to start updating whenever I get a moment and tell you what it's like at that moment.  Damn... that was the longest sentence ever. You'll have to forgive me. I'm excited about my hair! lol

To my Alice in Wonderland fans... Welcome to my tea party!!

  1. Frizz - I thought my hair was frizzy back at in month 2.  To that I say Ha!! It was a little fuzzy back then, it is frizzy now.  There is thick luscious frizz that makes my hair looks full and smooths down beautifully in a twistout.  I never thought the frizz would be something I like, but I love how it looks now.  I look exotic and wild.
  2. I'm still not exactly sure how they are going to turn out - I don't know what they'll look like months from now.  I can't predict it because this wasn't what I thought they would look like 6 months ago. They are completely mine, flaws and all. They have my DNA stamped all over them, from the thick bottoms (lol), to the the random spirals cutting through, to the lumps, and even to the color.  I love the way the red grows out and gives me an ombre look.  I got that color thinking I was getting perfectly sized sisterlocks and I would keep the roots done.  I have ended up with randomly sized braidlocks that haven't been colored since installation and probably won't be any time soon.
  3.  I love a 2-for hairstyle - I love styles that can be worn 2 ways like twists into a twist out.  I don't like the way just braids or twists look on my hair yet, so when setting my hair, I put it into an updo for several days, then wear it loose for the rest of the week.
  4. I've definitely calmed down - I'm not going to say that I don't still spend time talking about and looking at my hair.  I still take a lots of pics, but not as many as I did at the start.  I've really gotten into food and home blogs and have been considering putting together a blog about my other interests.  It's a thought, y'all see how long it took me to actually post a youtube video though. LOL
  5. The front has finally started locking - Well, at least one side has.  It's still got about 3 that haven't but the right side is mostly locking now.  The left side...is still stubbornly protesting any type of change. :) If you look at the tri-fold pic you can see the progress.  But hey 2/3rd means I'm almost there right?
  6. Bright accessories - I have always loved bright hair clips in the summer.  Now I've got lock jewelry, and clips, and headbands.  I usually have an accessory in daily.  There's so much pretty stuff that looks fab in locs. I've been eyeballing  these bobby pins from Target next.

That's all for now...talk to you soon.

Keep it nappy!!

Twist Out!!

I've never had a successful twist out, I've been trying for 2 years.  My cousin finally helped me realize it was because I've been using leave in as my styling product and I should have been adding some gel.  O.o  LOL  I use just a leave in for my braid outs and they always come out awesome, so I've assumed that the same thing would work for the twist outs.  When I think of all the hot mess I went through when I could have added one thing and been good... Smh.

  • Co-Washed
  • Garnis Sleek and Shine Leave in rubbed through
  • Aussie Hair Insurance sprayed all over.
  • 2 strands twists
  • Air dry
  • Rub with Proclaim Activator gel in morning to make damp
  • Air dry

I loved the defined curls!

Hair Update!!!

Hi everyone!!

I've been missing for a few weeks trying to figure out exactly who is going to install my sisterlocks.  I've been second guessing and it's kind of got me tripping. One way or the other, they are getting installed the week of 9/18. lol I sound super confident right!!

In the interim... I have been doing a bunch of hairstyles I've never achieved before!!  It's like my loose hair has decided it's going to let me get a couple of cute styles done after 2 years of failure LOL

I've been taking pictures so I could share what's worked:

Banding

I've always heard of people doing this, but I've never tried it myself.  It was easier than I expected and I liked the way my hair was easy to style after.

Who I am

Let me tell you a little bit of my hair story.  I got my last perm in March of 2009.  On April 18, 2009, I dyed my hair blonde.  I have no real excuse except I wanted to see how it would look.  And I hated it!  So I decided to grow it out and start over. My scalp has always been kind of sensitive and I just got tired of having scabs on my head from the chemicals.  And for what?  So I could look like everyone else?  I'm good with what God gave me.

So I transitioned for a few months, but got tired of trying to deal with the 2 textures so on August 18, 2009 I had my big chop.  I've been letting my hair grow out for the almost 2 years since that time and have realized that the longer my hair becomes, the less I feel like dealing with detangling it.  I have extremely coily 7-8 inch hair strands that wrap around each other if you even look at them.  Not to mention, I'm not very adept at styling my hair, which drives me crazy because when I was younger I had braids, and I kept a cute style.  Now I can't seem to deal with fighting the coils long enough to get it styled.

It is with all of these factors... and a TON of research, that I have decided to get sisterlocks.  My tester locks will be installed on Saturday and I'm so excited,  I can barely stand it.  I have literally spent HOURS on other blogs picture-stalking and soaking up all in information I can.  I dyed my hair a burgundy color that I am in love with because I wanted some color and I know once my hair is locked, I won't be able to do anything to it until it settles.  Thanks to the great people of Nappturality and the Yahoo LockItUp group, I learned that I could do it now with no problem, so I'm now a sassy redhead. :)

There is actually a Sisterlock convention here in my town on my birthday, August 13th (LEO!! lol) so I took that as a sign.  Plus it will also give me ample opportunity to look at plenty of gorgeous heads of hair before my installation.

That's all for now, I'll be back after my tester locks are put in.  In the mean time, the in between time... Keep it nappy!
